Cities play a central role in tackling today’s most pressing global challenge – the climate crisis. Although they occupy just 2% of the Earth’s surface, they generate almost 70% of global greenhouse gas emissions and consume over two-thirds of the world’s energy. At the same time, they are home to more than half of the world’s population, a figure expected to rise to 70% by 2050.
This makes cities both a challenge and an opportunity. Their rapid development often comes with significant environmental costs, but it also provides a space for bold, innovative solutions that can drive sustainable transformation worldwide.
Circular Cities
According to the World Bank, investments in sustainable urban development could reduce emissions by up to 70% in the coming decades. Circular economy principles – such as rethinking how we design, build, and manage cities – will be essential for shaping urban areas that are more resilient, resource-efficient, and climate-friendly.
Circular Week 2025
It is precisely to cities – as engines of climate and social transformation – that the second day of Circular Week 2025 will be dedicated. We invite you to the conference:🌆 “Building a Sustainable Urban Future”.
During the event, experts, innovators, and policymakers from across Europe will discuss practical solutions that make cities more sustainable and resilient. We will look at how urban areas can become leaders in climate action, pioneers of circular economy models, and inclusive spaces that improve the quality of life for all.
Join us at Circular Week 2025 and explore how cities can become the foundation of a sustainable future.
