Today marked the official launch of the INNOWO report titled "Digital Medical Devices," commissioned by the National Chamber of Commerce for Medical Devices POLMED. During the debate organized by POLMED, experts Agnieszka Sznyk, Michał Kępowicz, Arkadiusz Grądkowski, Jolanta Sobierańska-Grenda, and Karolina Maria Nowak discussed the barriers and benefits in the field of digital medical devices.
The report, prepared by the Polmed Chamber and the INNOWO Institute under the patronage of the Ministry of Development and Technology, analyzes the functioning of medical devices within the healthcare system and their socio-economic impact.
Currently, there are approximately 2 million different types of medical devices worldwide, with every fourth being a digital device. According to the report, the market for digital medical devices in Poland reached a value of 10 billion PLN in 2020, with a growing trend. The report not only reviews the current state of digitization in the healthcare sector but also identifies barriers and recommends actions to increase the use of digital medical solutions. It focuses on describing the relationship between digital technologies and their practical effects in healthcare. Despite some progress, much of the potential of digital medical solutions remains underutilized.
The report outlines several initiatives and solutions aimed at overcoming these barriers, including education on the benefits of digital health solutions, training medical personnel in digital competencies, and creating clear legal frameworks for healthcare digitization. The conclusions from the Polmed Chamber report are clear: digital medical devices have tremendous transformative potential for the Polish healthcare sector. However, to fully realize this potential, comprehensive actions are needed to remove existing barriers and promote innovative digital solutions in healthcare in Poland.
